COIL STORAGE, PROTECTION & HANDLING
Coil damage during handling & storage has become an increasingly
expensive/costly burden for steel & specialty
metal
producers & service
centers. Philpott has played a major role in helping companies minimize or
reduce these extraordinary costs. We have an in-house task force that is made
up of individuals with over 100 years combined experience in products and
solutions for protecting coils during handling, processing & storage. The
results have been a multitude of products that address specific problem areas.
STORAGE
Proper storage of coils can
result in tremendous cost savings due to a reduction in scrap and customer
charge-backs, as well as improve safety and housekeeping. The materials
offered, including rubber, polyurethane and plastic, have the advantage of being
non-splintering, have a high load-bearing capacity, and do not absorb oil.
Select materials also offer high-temperature resistance. We have several
storage options to choose from.

COIL SADDLES
-
Flexibility in storage field
layout makes saddles an easy choice for protecting your coils. Highly
visible colors, installation aids and oil-reservoirs are just some of the
features offered. We can supply you with a variety of standard sizes and
profiles or custom-design saddles to meet your specific storage & protection
challenge.
STORAGE SYSTEMS
-
Utilizing the same materials as coil saddles, but incorporating a more
permanent mounting or racking system, storage systems allow you to stack higher
and accommodate multiple coil sizes. The end result is a safe structure and
economical storage system for coils.

One system offers blocks with an angle designed specifically to offer maximum
support and allows coil stacking up to 3 levels, resulting in improved safety
for personnel and increased storage capacity. Even though mounted in fixed
steel channels, the blocks themselves have no fixed position and can be moved
depending on the diameter of the coil to be stored.

Modular systems can also be offered to arrange your system in grids according to the layout of your storage facility.

SLEEVES

On a steel processing line, time is money and we can reduce your set-up time while protecting the ID of your coil against coil breaks and surface imperfections. Sleeves offer the flexibility to reduce change-out time when processing multiple ID coils. Sleeves or segments are custom-designed to fit your existing mandrel and operating conditions, whether tension or payoff. Produced from durable polyurethane, rubber or plastic, they can come in a variety of styles such as expandable, split or segmented, depending on the requirements.
